And suddenly let loose

And suddenly let loose

Bodysuits. Black flames crawling up white walls. Contortion. Plastic dummies and fallen roses. These are just a few ingredients in the eccentric melting pot that is Tatiana Snezhko’s series ‘ And Suddenly let loose’. Inspired by her inner struggle with self-identity, Snezcho’s world of disarray and disorder reflects her paradoxical use of photography as a way to both shun and embrace her Russian origins. Having left her home country 4 years ago, Snezhko now resides in Paris to produce photographs full of irony and provocation. This series is no different. Her models’ identities are hidden in head-to-toe bodysuits to allow for unhinged self-expression as they hide behind white mesh curtains, dominate broken floor boards and pose with surrealistic eye masks and piles of odd debris. Snezhko believes that chaos and confusion go hand in hand with creativity and freedom. In one photo, a model in a green bodysuit crouches on her black heels as severed dummies arms crawl towards her; like a quirky, extremely styled zombie apocalypse film. For her, fashion photography is an unbridled do-what-you-want dressing-up-box of anarchy and beauty. A way to build self-esteem and work out who she is. A cathartic experience. A liberation. In that sense, it is as much a psychological diary, as it is a fashion shoot. A letter of resignation to Saint Petersburg Russia, and a stamp of approval to her artistic home of Paris.
