Andrea Sisson
Andrea Sisson is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, and filmmaker. She works in fine-art & editorial photography, narrative & art-based film, and installation & performance-based projects. Andrea is a recipient of a J. WILLIAM FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR GRANT, a Filmmaker Magazine's "25 Faces of Independent Film 2013", and is currently in production of her feature-length & co-directed project, Everything Beautiful Is Far Away - a "pop-art sci-fi" staring Joseph Cross (Running with Scissors) & Julia Garner (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Grandma). Andrea is co-director, designed & created the visual world & objects of the film, and is heavily involved in the overall creation, production, & output of the project (including installation-involved exhibitions of the film).
Andrea's work has been shown in contemporary spaces around the world including Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Museum of Image and Sound Sao Paulo, Brazil, VAEFF NYC, OFFF Barcelona, and has been commissioned by Dallas Contemporary for an installation in fall 2015. Her work has recently gaining wider visibility; In 2014, Andrea created a dance film and photography with NOWNESS of acclaimed Sia choreographer Ryan Heffington and is working with Viacom/MTV World on fashion & queer narrative films.
Andrea's career began with a BAS in Fashion Design & Design Theory from DAAP & a CFDA Honorable Mention for her 2009 conceptual portfolio. From 2009 - 2010, she designed for Iceland-based, conceptual fashion designer SRULI RECHT, and in 2010 after acclaim for her wearable-instrument, audio-design thesis & installation at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, she was awarded a 2010 FULBRIGHT FELLOWSHIP for academia & design. With the fellowship, Andrea co-directed/created her poetic, Iceland-based documentary, I Send You This Place, with filmmaker Pete Ohs. The film garnered a New York Times Review and Andrea was named a Filmmaker Magazine '25 New Face of Independent Film' 2013. She quickly became part of the young, auteur filmmakers stemming from New York City, and began making a name for herself in video-art. Andrea lives between New York City & east Los Angeles, frequently stays and works across Europe and internationally, and lived & worked in Iceland and Italy for some time.
