Barbara Bologna AW20

Barbara Bologna AW20

A literal party took shape on the catwalk of Barbara Bologna’s Autumn Winter 20 show. Models and onlookers mingled, creating a tactile and inclusive environment. It hasn’t failed to escape my notice that tactile inclusivity is not a phrase often heard or practiced in the fashion world, let alone when talking about a catwalk show. But this is Bologna we’re talking about, both ethically and sustainably conscious, this is a designer who not only re-shapes classic garments but also re-shapes space.

There is truly something for everyone in this AW20 collection. We see baby pink earmuffs along with faux fur coats and robust leopard prints, gothic creations with bright crimson studded sunglasses, cowboy hats combined with tasselled denim, and punk ensembles that provide that little bit of nostalgia we all seem particularly partial to at the moment. Bologna’s catwalk and collection provides for a hub of what I am going to name ‘healthy creativity’. For some her line-up could be seen as ‘disconnected’, but for me this is not the case. Bologna’s humanistic focus and respect for all living beings comes through perfectly in her multi-textural multitude of garments.

Like I said there’s something for everyone, a creative space where all are welcome and individuality is celebrated, rather than ostracised. Throw in some water pistols and an overly zealous playlist and there you have it, you’ve got yourself a show.
