Godford

Parisian rave artist Godford announces the release of "I YOU SHE", their second album inspired by human affection. This highly anticipated body of work releases on December 3rd and includes 13 igniting tracks that symbolise Godford as an artist with oozing talent. Preorder here.

In new album ‘I YOU SHE’, Godford’s music shapeshifts from quietly enthralling dancefloor hymns that captivate in their ephemeral rhythm before unfolding to more forlorn spaces, the mark of a true observer who sees everything at once: at both reactionary and empathetic, the record’s far-reaching lens loops together a scope of contrasting emotion that reflects the deeply personal circumstance of experiencing music at it’s most personal.

Along with the announcement they share their new single and video for “High and Lonely", they say “High and Lonely” is about feeling alone in a relationship, and the euphoric feelings of sadness that come with that.” Listen/watch video for “High and Lonely” here.

"I'm in the middle of that bridge between innocent romantic and rave. I don't want to choose between those two feelings. I'm hiding my face because I think my body isn't reflecting who I am. When I meet people in real, I feel I can express easily who I am but through a screen or any media, I'm feeling uncomfortable. Music, in general, is a non-binary place where everyone can express their deepest feelings." says Godford.

They have upcoming UK shows at Yes (Basement) in Manchester UK on December 3rd and another at Peckham Audio in London on December 4th. In an interview with the artist, we discuss the upcoming album, their inspirations, and future intentions.

How are you finding being an electronic musician during these current times?

For the production part, these times aren’t an issue because I don’t need to go anywhere; I’m in my own world and I disregard everything that surrounded me and almost forgets who I am as a person.

Where do you usually pull your inspiration from?

A big part of me is nostalgic from the 90’s/00’s, I guess a pull a lot of inspiration from this time. I also love mixing different types of vibe/emotion, romance, and the rave.

You are originally from France, do you think this impacts your music? If so, how?

Of course, I’ve been influenced by the French touch when I was a teenager: Daft Punk, Phoenix, Cassius, Justice… France has a long history of influential electronic music.

Were you exposed to music in your childhood? How did you find out music was your passion?

As a child, I was not exposed to some particular type of music but most at the beginning of my teenage years. I rediscovered electronic music with classics from Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, but I also loved Miss Kittin and Phoenix.

“I YOU SHE" includes 13 tracks, which ones are your favourite and why?

Each one has a particular feeling and I have affection for every track on this album. But if I had to choose one, I’d probably choose “Say My Name”, very proud of this one.

Describe what it was like to create "I YOU SHE" in one sentence?

I YOU SHE is captured moment of total peace and creative freedom.

How would you say your music differs from other electronic artists? This is a question that I’m not asking myself, I don’t try to be differentiated or to look alike someone else – maybe that’s what makes it different. Not about chasing trends or gaming the industry. I do what I love without thinking.

You have some amazing tour dates coming up for the rest of this year, which ones are you most looking forward to?

I’m excited about the whole tour. Being able to meet different crowds is everything an artist can hope for. There will have a different vibe every time in every city. It’s my first tour as well so I’m very excited.

And what should the audience expect to see during your tour?

Hopefully, a warm and inviting energy that’s equally fun and emotional at the same time.

Finally, what should we expect from you in 2022?

As I’m releasing my 2nd album end of 2021, I think 2022 will be full of touring. Finally, time to meet people who listen to my music and I’m very excited about it.
