On the way out, or on the way in, we’ve all jumped into cabs and spoke from point A to point B. It’s essentially therapy. To have someone you don’t know, probably never see again, listen to you. Sometimes the topic will revolve around life. Sometimes music taste. Or simply what you ate that day. But for that 30 minutes or so, you create a bond in the taxi, that you would never outside of that car. It’s a strange phenomenon.
Jim Jarmusch filmed this. The temporary connection taxi drivers build with their punters in five different cities; Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, Helsinki. He chose these cities specifically because of the actors he wanted to work with, which is admirable to say the least.
We see five different short stories, all depicting various emotions. Some with sorrow, some with humour. But, all stories told are with no boundaries. The bond we build with drivers, and they build with us, is strange. When we think no one wants to listen to us, this proves there always is someone. As there is someone who always wants to be listened too, as well.
