Juliao Ocampo
Reminiscent of the post-colonial culture left in the Philippines, Juliao Ocampo explores her fascination with the dark aspects of the past, while being inspired by the everyday religious items found in households such as the Sto, Nino statue, and twin hearts tiles. Shot intimately in a close friend’s home located in Manila, In Cembo’s Palace features pieces that loudly display images of Jesus Christ, as well as other biblical characters. Against a backdrop that authentically captures life in the Philippines, this project juxtaposes the old and the new curating something uniquely current.
