Kris De Smedt
“End of Season” is a personal photo essay by fashion photographer Kris De Smedt while he traveled in Alaska. They mark, as the title suggests, the end of a season, specifically summer. The Belgian photographer was influenced by Twin Peaks’ character “The Log Lady” and her philosophical views in his visual narrative of his interpretation of the cosmology of the wilderness. The images resulted from contact sheets with no editing and rather than marking a conclusion, De Smedt likes to see the photos as marking a new beginning or birth. Images, for him, function as words and “End of Season” eloquently describes to us the cyclical process of nature and life.
