Mask
Alex Turrion brings us ‘Masks’. Inspired by one of his favourite books, ‘Almost Transparent Blue’ by Ryu Murakami; the editorial seeks to understand the masks we hold within ourselves. “It is like ifpeople had two faces, the masked and the unmasked one, the one we show so the people can see it, and the one we keep for no one to see. Which one is each? If what we share is our true shelves forpeople watching, maybe the mask is just the part we hide.”
Turrion draws parallels between ‘Almost Transparent Blue’ and the social media culture we live intoday. The book follows a gang of Japanese youngsters from the 70s. Showing their behaviour around drugs and sex when they are in group, but how lonely and different they feel when they are on their own.
“It made me think about nowadays and social media, about how people seem to feel the necessity to share any aspect from our lives that we think to be desirable for the rest, especially when we are in group.”
