Mika Hashimoto

Hashimoto pays attention to small details in seemingly ordinary narratives of the everyday, stating that, “When I find those scenes, I think how funny and lovable a human being is. If I could take photos like those situations, I am very happy and excited.”

Born in 1991 and currently based in Japan, the photographer often takes photographic journeys after a trip to the Philippines, where a role model pushed her to pursue photography

“There were many scenes that I ran unexpectedly to to take pictures. Scenes like: an old man eating ice cream, once when a group of young people saw a magician’s magic, they were surprised like a five-year-old boy, a small girl skating with a tremendously serious face, a girl crying for a dog who ran away from her home and eventually she found the dog, a couple hugging each other in front of a taco shop.”

“I am very simple, I started to go to various countries to take pictures from that time.”
