Richard Linklater

Richard Linklater’s ‘Dazed and Confused’ (1993) paints the perfect portrait of what it looks like to be a Texas small-town teen in high school in the ‘70s. A classic ‘stoner’ comedy of teenagers breaking free into mischief of hazing, drinking, drugs and sex. Linklater is also known for his films ‘Waking Life’ and ‘Before Sunrise’.

With only a beer commercial and music video scene on his portfolio, Matthew McConaughey’s first big break as an actor was in ‘Dazed and Confused’. As a fresh graduate from University of Texas, McConaughey accidently met the casting director of ‘Dazed and Confused’, Don Phillips, by chance at a party.

“You gotta keep on livin’… L-I-V-I-N.”
— Wooderson

The special cast featured multiple pre-famous era of actors such as Milla Jovovich, Anthony Rapp, Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, and Parker Posey, alongside many more faces that are now highly recognizable such an Oscar-winner Renée Zellweger who was an uncredited extra in the film.

“I’m just trying to be honest about being a misanthrope.”
— Daniel
“I’d like to stop thinking of the present as some minor, insignificant preamble to something else.”
— Cynthia
“Did ya ever look at the dollar bill, man? There’s some spooky shit goin’ on there. And it’s green too.”
— Slater
