You always say “find me“ and now that we found you, what’s your secret?
When people come to you they already know what they're getting themselves into.
Tell us about “The Interestings”. We also love the series of portraits on the set.
Thank you. "The Interestings" was a show I worked on for Amazon that was set in the 1970's. I had taken some time off of shooting conceptual series' but the set was so visually striking I couldn't resist. Almost every actor had a wig, some people had colored contacts and one boy even had a prosthetic nose made to match his older self! I wanted the images to be consistent and documentative like a cast yearbook.
When did you realise the project “boys and girls”? It is visually so true and beautifully natural.
I made "Boys and Girls" in response to conversations I overheard in my freshman, all girls dormitory. The series was meant to contrast the media driven image of the perfectly packaged, sexualized man and woman. It becomes so apparently awkward and unachievable when you see the two presented in a grid, almost like a biology lab experiment.
What is likely to happen in your future?
My future is full of lots of exciting secrets that I'm legally bound not to to tell you! Stay tuned ;)
