Simon Cracker FW24
In a world consumed by chaos and noise, there comes a time when a different state of mind beckons our attention. 'La Nanna', a captivating collection, captures that fleeting moment just before sleep where reality becomes blurred, colors fade, and consciousness drifts. Inspired by James Joyce's concept of the stream of consciousness, this collection, created through the innovative process of upcycling, is a testament to the beauty and intricacy of stories that lie beneath the surface.
The Power of Sleep:
Drawing inspiration from Banana Yoshimoto's enchanting novel 'Asleep,' the designers behind 'La Nanna' have envisaged sleep as a powerful form of protection and self-care. As such, the collection boasts a captivating faded color palette achieved by dyeing already constructed garments, resulting in a range of mesmerizing shades. Garments take on an air of dustiness or rain-kissed dewiness through cleverly applied old opaque sequins and silvery paints. A sense of softness and time's 'patina' envelopes traditional men's tailoring, a significant component of the brand's DNA. Pearls cascade down felted fabrics and old bed sheets, mimicking the gentle glow of moonlight.
The Collaborative Dream:
To bring their imaginative vision to life, the designers invited artistic collaborator Sue Clowes into their sanctuary of creative slumber. Clowes, renowned for her dream-like artistry, meticulously hand-printed denim garments, infusing them with her otherworldly perspective. The resultant collaboration accentuates the ethereal quality of the collection, captivating viewers and evoking a sense of boundless imagination.
A Rebellion of Knowledge and Kindness:
Amidst a world yearning for change, the designers of 'La Nanna' remain steadfast in their belief that rebellion lies not only in the pursuit of knowledge but also in kindness. The collection becomes a conduit, conveying this philosophy to its wearers and admirers, urging them to find solace, reprieve, and inspiration in the embrace of a dreamlike existence.
A Grateful Acknowledgment:
The designers extend their profound gratitude towards all those who have supported and contributed to the realization of their vision. Special thanks are given to Carla Sozzani for her presence in their thoughts, the indefatigable Meg, who embodies a pagan queen warrior spirit, Sue Clowes, Boyrebecca, Pietro Sedda, Protopapa, and Arca Milano for providing a magnificent platform for showcasing this collection. Furthermore, Andrea Boschetti, Susi Foschi, Benedetta Carollo, Daniele Dimasi, Gena Marvin, Marina Guidi, Christina Holm, Maximilian Linz, Marcello Pilade, and Maria Aminta, along with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, are lauded for their contributions. Most importantly, the designers express their deepest gratitude to the Cracker Crew, whose unwavering love and trust have provided unwavering support throughout their journey.
In an era defined by chaos, 'La Nanna' serves as a reminder of the enchanting power of dreams and the profound influence they hold over our state of mind. Through masterful upcycling techniques and a celestial color palette, this collection transports viewers to a world where tradition and imagination intertwine effortlessly. 'La Nanna' invites us all to embrace the rebellion of knowledge and kindness, inviting us to find solace amidst the bustle and to embark on a transformative journey through the ethereal realm of dreams.
