The Rostrum-signed and self-managed Taliwhoah left her family home in London to pursue her dreams in the City of Angels. Although coming from an established and deeply musical family in England, the artist had to start from a blank slate. Almost two years down the line, Taliwhoah is ready to release her first studio album that serves as an amalgamation of her experiences in her newfound home. We sat down with Taliwhoah on a sunny afternoon to capture a few portraits and hear more about the real-life experiences that have fuelled her upcoming release, Another Dimension.

How old were you when you started making music, and what has journey been like up to this point?
I started taking my solo career seriously when I was about twenty or twenty-one. I’ve always been involved in music to some degree, but I never really took myself seriously as a solo artist until I dropped my first EP, Melodies of Madness. Since then, I’ve learnt a lot about myself and the woman I want to be. I’ve been blessed to meet some amazing people along the way that have really taken time to invest in me, believe in me and support the music I make. I’ve had a few trying times that really tested my resilience, but I’m thankful for all the lessons so far.

What are the lessons that you have learnt by relocating to the US?
I’ve really learnt how to compose myself as a business woman. I’m taking more time to understand the difference in business etiquette between London and the US. Because I manage myself, I have to balance the business and artist side of things.

What role does fashion play in your creative life?
I’ve always been really enthusiastic about fashion and the industry. Now, I’m able to combine my love for fashion with my love for music. I want my personality to be able to transcend through all forms of expressions, and fashion is definitely one of the main ones.

What have been some of the most influential albums in your life?
I would say Bad by Michael Jackson, 8701 by Usher, Writings on the Wall by Destiny’s Child and Brandy’s Full Moon were really influential albums.

Tell us more about your upcoming project.
My upcoming album is titled Another Dimension and it’s set to release in October. This project has really pushed my drive...I had to finish it while dealing with the loss of my baby brother. I’ve never wanted to quit and work so hard, all in the same breath and at the same time. I’m really proud of it as I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing producers and artists. I’m really excited to share it.
