How did you decide to pursue acting?
It wasn't really a choice, if I can say that without sounding to cliché. When I don't do it, I'm not happy.
What is your dream role as an actress?
I don't have a dream role, right now I just want to work as much as possible. But too often I play the girlfriend, and I want to portray a powerful female character, a character that other girls will feel empowered by when they watch. But even if I don't have a specific dream role, I have some dream directors: David Lynch, Sofia Coppola, Wes Anderson (just to be in his universe!). Xavier Dolan, of course. A character in Woody Allen’s universe would be fun too. Andrea Arnold!!! American Honey, Jesus Christ what a movie.
Describe your perfect day.
Wake up in a light-filled room at 10 am. Coffee in bed. One of the directors mentioned above calls me and says, “Yo, Thea, good news, I want you in my movie,” Then the movie wins an Oscar. Then I live happily ever after in a house by the ocean in Italy. (And in a realistic world: my perfect day is spent on a warm summer day in Oslo, preferably with a dog and some good friends, we go swimming, we go drink and eat cherries in a park, and we don't walk home until the sun is up and the birds are singing again)
What's the one thing you couldn't live without?
My friends! They're everything. And music, and puppies. I need to get a dog. An old-english sheepdog maybe. It would sleep in my bed.
When and where are you happiest?
First time I went to LA, I went there alone. And nothing gives me more of a rush then going to a new part of the world alone - but not feel lonely. The kick of having to be so open to the world, to the people you meet and jumping on to any adventure that might come your way. It's the best. That was a good month. When I'm home I'm too comfortable to be spontaneous all the time - plus, it can get exhausting in the end. I'm also very comfortable spooning with my boyfriend.
