Twemsis, also known as Anisa, Greta, and Naima, are three sisters who decided to establish a musical band after realising their shared passion for music and sister-like relationship. Before the inception of Twemsis, Greta and Anisa were already solo vocalists and although they are all originally from Spanish Morocco, they were born and reared in Italy.

The group's goal is to share their story via song, including the numerous problems they faced, the positive and negative experiences they had, and everything that helped them to evolve and become who they are now. The development of this group helped them to strengthen their bonds and spend more time together.

Twemsis' music is classified as multilingual rap, yet it combines the fluidity of many other styles. The varied writings contain not just Italian but also Spanish and, on occasion, American slang. Anisa, Greta, and Naima want to show everyone their strength, sincerity, and sympathy - They want others to recognise themselves in them, in their life experiences, and to be inspired by them.

They recently created and released the new track "Bipolare" which arose from the necessity to express a personal life experience that had drained the three vocalists' energies due to a family difficulty. For them, it was like being stuck in a loop, to the point of seeming practically insane. As a result of the three sisters' rapid transition from happiness to despair, the label "Bipolare" was coined.

After speaking with Coeval Magazine, we understand the unbreakable bond between singing sisters and find out more about their latest track "Bipolare".

Tell us about your childhoods? Did each of you always want to pursue music? Did you always listen to music as children?

We had a tough childhood, from a young age. We had to deal with racism Issues as We are Moroccan, Muslim, and brown skin girls and at those times We were one of the first foreign people in my Town, indeed In our classes, We were the only North African children. And then Our parents used to work all day so We were used to staying at home alone. Greta The biggest when she was 6 she used to take care of her two youngest sisters who were respectively 3 and 1 years old.

Apart from this Music was always there. Greta was the first to pursue music. Since 5 years old She used to sing and create melodies with her voice. Her dream was to become a Pop Star. Then growing up you know youngest sisters always try to take inspiration from the biggest one so music was Automatically transferred to Anisa and the end also to Naima. From a young age, we always listened to music, from the great 2000’ s hits to the nowadays best popular songs.

How would you describe the music scene in Italy? Is it what you expected?

Unfortunately, the music scene in Italy is in some ways still closed to innovation, new genres, to new ways to represent a track. We were expecting this, but we hope things gonna change. However, there is some news that can be seen, that is slowly advancing such as introducing songs lyrics to multiples languages which may be part of the cultural roots of the artist (E.g. Ghali with Arabic words in his songs).

Are there any artists who you guys aspire to, look up to?

Of Course yes!! Our inspirational artists were the top R&B artists such as Destiny’s Child, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey and then The Rap kings Eminem, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Usher, Snoop Dog and Many more. Our inspiration has always been from abroad and never from Italy.

Where do you usually pull your inspiration from?

We usually pull inspiration basically from our own experiences, whether they are good or bad. Sometimes we make collages of various magazine words and then start to create a lyric starting from those words and sometimes we just write what We’re thinking at that precise moment.

What about multilingual rap music excites you guys?

What excites us about multilingual rap music is to spread the same message in different languages so Everyone can understand the sense of what We’re saying.

We read that your goal is to convey to all people their strength, genuineness and sympathy, can you elaborate on this & how this is seen in your music?

You know sometimes saying things through music it’s easier than talking directly. Some people are not good at talking and prefer to express what’s going on through a song text. We hope that writing down what’s in our minds and spreading it, may convey to people our message that they are not alone, that we have gone through so many challenges and this leads us to become stronger and to live life easier, always smiling and being true to ourselves. We hope they see themselves in our words and have the hope that there will be better days after the challenges they’re going through.

Give us some insight into your latest single “Bipolar”? What does this track mean to you all? How was it created etc?

Bipolar was born to vent a hard time that occurred when our brother used to be aggressive and cause trouble in our family. At that time we always used to be nervous to the point We had the feeling we were like freaking out and we used to get from one emotional state to another, the typical symptoms of bipolarity.

How do you want people to feel when listening to “Bipolar”?

We want people to feel interested in us, about our story and to follow us on our journey because We have a lot to say.

What are your future plans? Is there anything we should keep our eye on in the upcoming months?

We usually don’t like to make plans, because we have experienced several times that life never goes as planned or expected. So We Rely on Destiny and We hope to succeed one day. Yes, of course, we have many surprises coming from the best sisters, Inshallah!
