Umbrus
Ever since she was a small girl she wanted to be a small girl. The context of this editorial is fashion boudoir shoot in the frame of a 1970ies fetish magazine. It is based on the ongoing project of the artist putting her multiple sexual personalities into the open and numbing them down. She fetishises only clothing, everything from a white pair of underwear from a dollar store to a polka-dot shirt to a pair of riding boots, all pretty obvious.
The medium of iPhone photography is a tool that can be used by anybody. Easy access is the best way to make a quick editorial and this is the dogma Luna Mae Heflin works by.Referencing contemporary phenomena of crop and text in picture the editorial brings to light what caption and picture has made of us.To put picture and text next to each other leaves the possibility of having a text that is not directly related to image but is open for different interpretations. The painted frame in the framed painting, the Madonna in the garden of Jan van Eyk and Jessica Harper from Dario Argento’s “Suspiria” can be found when one looks closely enough.
