Valiz is an independent, international publisher that addresses contemporary developments in art, theory, criticism, (graphic) design and urban culture. Our books offer critical reflection and interdisciplinary inspiration. They often connect different cultural, artistic disciplines to socio-economic, political issues. We publish these books out of a commitment to their content, to artistic and social issues, and to the artists, designers and authors involved.
At 7pm: Short talk by Astrid Vorstermans, founder / publisher of Valiz Resistance Through Book Culture On Valiz and Publishing
Astrid Vorstermans (Valiz, Amsterdam), who will give a concise talk on Valiz’ editorial strategies, and on what independent and ‘critical’ publishing means in this context. In times when diversity, plurality of voices, and counter culture are under pressure books, esp. critical books, are an important power to keep real information flowing, meaningful exchanges going, to be able to understand different perspectives, to have insight in how culture is a tapestry with many threads, expressed in text and visually in a plethora of forms, colours and interpretations. Astrid will give a meandering talk on what that means for publishing, and for connecting to authors, designers, bookshops and readers.
