Alex Vieja
“China Hands” is a photo series by photographer and filmmaker Alex Vieja. The term “China Hands” contemporarily refers to a foreigner who appears to have a deep understanding of China and Chinese culture.
Despite the controversial and loaded term, Vieja hopes to convey his “own understanding of China and its capital Beijing” through his travels and photography of China. Vieja is currently based in Moscow, Russia.
“During the time I have spent in Beijing I had a chance to see people riding their vehicles to get to their work nighttime or daytime during very cold spring. Streets of Beijing are full of motorbikes. Usually they are basically dumped in heaps near the workplaces, and you don’t see so much standalone parked bikes. Through my project I would like the spectator to track the history of motorbike owner and what he does in Beijing today.”
