She is a wonderfully willowy dancer that eats hot Doritos with metal chopsticks. What’s not to love? Learn more about the beautifully spider-like movements behind Alexandra Jacob and if she indeed coined the move and hashtag known as the #dabcrab.

Are you more alien or more ballerina? What would be the percentage breakdown? 50/50?
I'm 100% alien wearing ballerina skin.

Where are you based? Do you travel much with ballet? Do you dance full time?
I'm currently based in New York City. While dancing professionally with the Dance Theatre of Harlem for 10 years, I toured all over the United States and world. Since leaving the company in 2014, I still dance full-time, independently as a freelance ballet dancer.

You hash tagged one of your posts #dabcrab - did you coin this term/move? Are there funny names for any other positions or dance moves?
I'm not sure I created the term #dabcrab, however I've never seen ballet dancers do anything similar previous to that particular post. My hair is quite long and I have a lot of it, so I tend to dress it in a lot of my typically contemporary ballet positions. I also unintentionally helped popularize an unflattering frontal view of a basic ballet barre position, the grand plié (as seen in the #dabcrab image). I feel like my hair makes all these movements more interesting for me. Some hashtags from my weirdo images include: #HairBlanket, #HairBra, #CousinIt, #OffDutyClown, #spider, etc.

I always assume that ballerinas and dancers get hit on a lot. Do you think you are approachable or intimidating? Are you single or taken?
I'm taken; got married in 2015 to a fellow alien witch. His name is Constantine and we met on a blind date in 2012.

To be honest, I never had any game and am completely clueless when people are hitting on me. In my naiveté, I generally just assume everyone's being nice and friendly. If anything, I typically get told that I'm scary or witchy (most likely because I'm usually wearing head-to-toe black leather and covered in my own unkempt hair).

What do you do to counter balance all of the dance? Do you ever binge on junk food and Netflix shows?
I listen to a lot of music, draw, play with my cat Luna, and watch old videos of my favorite bands (Suicide, Klaus Nomi, Cocteau Twins, Bauhaus, the Jesus and Mary Chain) to keep inspired in ballet. Music drives me and it helps shape not just how I dance, but what I look like (in love with post-punk, minimalist wave, cold wave, 80s/90s goth, 70s punk, and classical baroque). I don't really watch tv, however I love 'Stranger Things' and 'The OA' on Netflix. I typically binge on tiny house videos on youtube while eating hot Doritos in 'Dinamita' flavor with my metal chopsticks.
