DVA Deluxe x Shutney Molho

The shooting took place a couple weeks before the beginning of the official quarantine in Rio de Janeiro, in the surroundings of the Museum of Modern Art, an out of the ordinary spot that overlooks the beautiful Guanabara Bay. DVA Deluxe and Shutney Molho express boldly with their vision a direct antagonism to the mass culture degeneration of nowadays big designer brands.

The pictures were taken a couple days after an intense creative immersion with LA artists and friends @poshgod2055 and @spacebrat, also present on the photographs. Styling was made on spot by @niceflocka and photographer @hickduarte directed the shots. Deconstructivism and experimentation are both very present and establish a straight contraposition to our world’s lack of authenticity. The main idea is to pose a direct criticism regarding the current fashion industry scenery; show how a model that stimulates a blind consumerism, a herd mentality and a constant frustration through the loss of the personal identity cannot be a model worth following.

“In this world where everything is so controlled sometimes it seems like there’s absolutely no way out, no possibility of expressing our deepest desires. That s why more than ever we need to fight for what we truly believe and not surrender to the options we are given, paradigms of unhappiness. The rebellion is not yet over, fuck!” @whoisjuy

Although DVA Deluxe and Shutney Molho are two distinct projects they share common ideological beliefs, triggering constant collaborations. The garments work as a manifesto against the bad planning of the industry and an alternative way out represented by the strengthening of local ventures. These often provide a product of way higher quality and worth, and  that’s what it should be all about: quality, not quantity.

The dissatisfaction with the final product proposed by the market is what drives the artists towards creation “Wearing unique garments appears to me something way more appealing rather than succumbing to large scale clothing. It banalises the way we dress, something so interesting and profound, a way of exteriorising our relation with reality and expressing our own character”.

“I see a very transparent truth in all of their work since i met them last year while recording a music clip with some friends, that’s why i decided to keep track of their work, and to closely document it” @hickduarte
