Piotr Niepsuj

Born in Lodz, Poland in 1984, photographer, freelance photo-editor, and creative consultant Piotr Niepsuj released his first photography book, “A”, this past month. Niepsuj is currently based in Milan, Italy and is known for his tender, yet raw portrayals of urban scenes. “A” is a photo diary of Niepsuj’s holiday vacation with a girl. The title is the first letter of the alphabet, as it is his first photography book as well as the name of the book’s dedicatee and the photographer’s summer lover. The trip consists of three cities: Lodz, Warsaw, and Berlin. The entire book was shot on a iPhone 5C as Niepsuj believes that photography with an iPhone is a contemporary equivalent to point-and-shoot camera.

Niepsuj claims to have fallen in love on this trip and with these emotions, portrays familiar settings from new perspectives. His photography in “A” rejects the typical, explicitly passionate nude photography that is conventional for photography centering around vacations with significant others. There is an acute self-consciousness to his work in “A” that depicts a short-term, but blossoming love that is constantly on the move and in flux. The rough tone of the work refuses to create an idealized, honey-saturated vacation.
