Consistentially inspired by Japanese idol culture Girl Cola creates tracks influenced by a variety of musical genres, including; PC, hip-pop, psytrance, and future funk. Through creating into multiple genres, Girl Cola is able to maintain her authentic style of music without being subjected to classification. In a recent release titled “Hentai Baby,” Girl Cola infused her personal style of music with anime and hentai manga culture, manifesting a unique sound personal to herself.

What was the inspiration behind hentai baby?
It is from the Japanese style of hentai manga and anime. I was trying to hybrid anime with my music into a kind of new style. As I dressed like an oiran (historically high-ranking courtesans in Japan) in my music video, I think it’s inspired by the Japanese fashion scene, kimono, lolita, and cosplay are my favorites.

How would you describe your personal style, and where do you draw inspiration from?
I think I’m an idol who is making some electronic kawaii bass music. I really like Japanese idol culture. Then I tried to mix the music genres that I like (such as hip pop, pc music, psytrance, and future funk) into idol culture. In this way, I can retain my own style and develop my own music types.

Do you listen to foreign music from around the world? Or specifics from certain genres?
I used to listen to trap music, electronic and pc music like Sophie. But my favorite artists are Die Antwoord and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. I really like going to a psytrance party too!! I listen to many different genres of music currently

What is your creative process like for you? Is there a certain process in which you actualize your ideas?
My creative process is to fall in love. Falling in love with someone makes me inspired to write lyrics and helps me find the mood of the song. I usually discuss with my producer <Mixjointing> about what we are gonna do for the beat. For the music video, I get my crew to provide filming, customs, makeup etc.

Do you enjoy the scene/nightlife of the city?
I did enjoy the scene/nightlife of Hong Kong before the political issues (Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation Bill). Everything changed after the shitty policy, nobody really focuses on the party scene much. But my friends and I are still making underground parties. But you know, the vibe isn’t like it used to be. :(

Is traveling and performing in different cities something you’d be interested in for the future?
Yes of course! I do wanna have tours in different countries, like I’m planning on going to Taipei and Tokyo in April. Maybe Europe in the future.

Where would you like to be 5 years from today?
Don’t know haha, I’m just a baby girl XD. I just want the people I love today still by my side in 5 years.
