Ron Van Der Werf
Ron van der Werf is a Dutch artist born in 1958 who studied at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague. His paintings are noticeably made up of chalk, pencil, cloth, wire, and sand and work to display the intense labor undergone to create these works. His paintings are as much about the process of painting and as much as its concluding image. The earthy tones van der Werf uses builds an organic association with his art that both builds up and destroys harmony. His works show both an almost catastrophic blend of materials and textures as well as a well-balanced synthesis. The Dutch artist’s works, through their oscillation between substance and nothing amidst everything, create a space of obscurity that viewers can find comfort in.
