Wayne Lawrence
Wayne Lawrence’s photography can be seen as a pictograph of reality—a reality of human lives and communities often neglected and abandoned by mass media. Born in 1974 in St. Kitts, documentary photographer Wayne Lawrence is most famous for his series Orchard Beach: The Bronx Riviera and Black Orthodox. His photography works as a visual chronicle and aims to generate authentic and intense connections. Lawrence’s work has been exhibited at several major institutions such as the Bronx Museum of Art, America Haus in Munich, and the African American Museum of Philadelphia. His work has also been covered by the New York Times, the New Yorker, TIME Magazine, Rolling Stone, and several more. Most recently, in 2014, he was awarded the Light Work Artist in Residence. Lawrence is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
