Marion Crampe
When I first watched videos of Marion on the pole, I couldn’t help but ask: How can someone be so bendy? So fast, so fluid, so strong, so smooth?! I asked her a few questions about this. Read on to learn more about the adventurous, daring and dedicated woman, Marion Crampe.
Where are you from in France? Do you travel much with your projects?
I was born and raised in the southwest of France near Lourdes. I left my home town at a young age to study and also because the free bird in me was screaming for new air! Then in 2010 I left my country to go to Milan. At this time, I was a "no home" traveler and went around the world this way for 6 years. Finally, I met my amazing husband on tinder (yes for real) and we are now based in Spain. Even though I’m constantly on the road, he accepts and supports fully my lifestyle - this is a true gift for the free spirit I am!
When did you start performing? How long have you been teaching?<
I think I always "wanted to be " a performer since a very young ag - even when I wasn't very talented or really gifted for that. I just went for it. To the fullest. It became my job…sporadically at first, then daily since 2010. Regarding teaching, I graduated with a masters at Sports University for disabled people - followed by getting a personal trainer diploma. I have been teaching for many years now. As much I love to be on stage, teaching is definitely a huge part of my life and something that brings me a lot of joy and satisfaction.
Give us an example of a day in your life. How much time do you spend practicing? My days differ depending on where I am. Mostly, even on the other side of the world, I do make sure to follow a routine. I like to repeat the words of the french ballerina MA Gillot, "The discipline is the base of my freedom not the opposite". This quote makes me grounded and happy. I do wake up early (since I was a baby) and I love the quiet of the morning. I do take a time out for mediation on a daily basis (duration depending on mood, time...) . If I’m "home”, I love to spend a soft coffee time with my hubby. It is our ritual, with no phone , just us chatting. I really listen to my body and mind. I don't Pole every day. Some days I go for a long run or swim (around 1 hour) mixed with core and /or flexibility. It helps to keep my passion for Pole high . At the studio, I usually prefer to train alone. I find myself more focused even though I love to share time and training with friends when that happens. I stay in the studio for about 3h (including warm up). I normally preprepare my session a little but sometimes I just go with the flow. While Im away for workshops or shows, I adapt the routine the best I can to find time for myself. It is doable with a little organization and some sacrifices!
What does it take to be a smooth performer on the pole?
To be a ”smooth performer”…well, one must define "smooth”. It really depends on many factors like style and taste. Personally, I do love spinning pole, lines, transitions. I challenge myself trying and testing things out of my zone but I give a particular attention to the execution and I explore fully each move and step I take. I like it so I do it. I find other dancers in other styles so interesting and inspiring to watch with their own "smooth" way. Definitely to find that, it takes many hours of practice and training. No secret right?!
What advice would you give to someone with no experience pole dancing but wants to try? (I’m “asking for a friend” lol).
My advice: If you want it, GO FOR IT. Wanting it is already a big step forward. Then pass the door of the local studio - There are amazing ones everywhere (literally everywhere) in the world. Pole is like that: You like it at the first spin and get addicted or you aren’t interested at all. You must try to know. After 12 years Im still deeply and truly about Pole dance!
Who would you invite to sit in the front row for a private performance?
Good question. Im thinking about it and it will sound super cheesy but take it as it is: I would invite myself! I could see where and what I am. All the work accomplished and the joy doing what I do brought to me as a viewer - Yes, I would invite me to sit there on the front row!
