I’ve always leaned towards pop culture costume concepts. I like to focus in on a specific outfit from a music video, performance, or movie. Whether or not you purchase these to make the actual look, these groups reflect the possibilities that already lie within your own closet, and the shoppable pieces available at your online!
SHIA LABEOUF: Shia is everyone’s favorite street style icon, Disney star, and my personal (recently divorced) celebrity crush. He makes a lot of interesting choices with his clothing, mostly vintage pieces mixed in with crocs, military garb, and ironic graphics. This set of product easily gets you started on putting together a clever yet unique costume.
COYOTE UGLY: I love Coyote Ugly. The fashion, the performances, Tyra Banks! There’s a lot of ways to create a look that would fit into the movie, my thoughts revolving around leather, animal print, and midriff. The sequin cowboy hat is maybe a little theatrical but would be fun way to take any slutty western look to the next level!
CARRIE: A great book and movie. I love Stephen King novels! This look requires a bit of commitment to a bloodsoaked hair and makeup situation, but could easily be artfully adapted with a little glitter and careful application. This slip dress is a great replica of her original prom dress.
MARIAH CAREY: So this one is a little obscure but remains one of my favorite outfits of all time. I am a big fan, I even enjoy the movie Glitter! In the “Touch My Body” music video the one and only Mariah Carey sports a genius combination of silver mini dress, purple tube socks, and a lucite high heel. It’s meant to be playful and sexy, and I think it’s incredibly elegant in its simplicity.
